I came across a software program about a month ago that has dramatically increased my productivity in writing sets and drills up. I used to write everything down on diagrammed paper or design the sets in Microsoft Word, but FastDraw, used by several NBA teams and college programs, has definitely made my life easier. The drag and drop features to diagram plays make drawing sets extremely fast, hence the name, FastDraw. You can build playbooks for separate seasons and break them down into as many categories as you want. For example you can separate them into “Threes”, “Layups”, “Post Entries”, “Ball Screens” and so on. You could even make them more detailed by breaking up “Ball Screens” into Sideline Pick and Roll, High Ball Screen, Nail Ball Screen, Horns, etc. Looking to just draw up a new set you saw watching the Boston Celtics play? Just draw it up and use to FastPrint feature to take a single set with you to practice the next day.
This program will free up time to plan practice, spend time with your family, and hone your skills as a coach. We will be using it from now on to draw sets and drills for our membership program, featuring an NBA or College set of the week! If you are looking for a program to make your coaching life a little easier, I highly suggest checking out the program at http://www.fastmodelsoftware.com.
