Think of your goal follow through just like the follow through of your jump shot. You can have perfect shot prep, a perfect pass and catch, lift the ball perfectly until release, but if you don’t follow through you aren’t going to make it. The same can be said for your goals. Creating goals is the first step, but it means nothing without action and follow through. Fulfilling your goals will take hard work, time, and persistence.
Here are 5 keys to help you stay productive and follow through on your goals:
- Prioritize your goals: Make sure you know what goals are the most important. List your goals in order of priority when you write them out.
- Write your goals down: Don’t type them out. While we write our brains are interpreting and processing information. This helps to fix ideas in our minds and helps us to recall this information easier in the future. This is also why taking hand written notes is so important.
- Put copies of your goals in places you see often: This will keep the goals fresh on your mind. By your bed, on a mirror, a notebook, a locker, computer wallpaper, are some places to think about. Use multiple locations to keep the goals more fresh in your mind.
- Track, Measure, and Evaluate: Make sure you are constantly evaluating your progress or lack thereof. You should be able to measure what you’re doing. For some great insight on doing this in your basketball workouts, watch this video by Mike Lee.
- Understand the Process: Improvement is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight. Understand that it will take time to complete your goals and achieve the results your desire. You must also understand that it will not be easy and you will face adversity. The adversity isn’t as important as how you react to it. Learn from the experience and become better for it!
