I had an amazing and shocking conversation with a student of mine today. This young man plays football at the school I teach at, and the football team had just gotten beaten badly the night before in a state playoff game. After asking him about the game, he told me the other team “was rich” which meant they were better football players, and had a better chance to succeed. Basically, he told me if you have money you are better.
WOW, what a false statement and an excuse for not believing you can reach your dreams later in life. I took exception to the comment by the student and proceeded to question him on the matter the entire class period. Unfortunately, the student was not alone in his belief.
It is not about the money, nice uniforms, or financial portfolio of mom and dad, but it is about choices that we make on a daily basis. Make choices to get in position to develop, learn, and enhance your opportunities. Money does not make you good. YOU make you good! The sooner you learn that that better off you will be in life. Get on the field to get extra reps, find a key to the gym and shoot more; get in the weight room to finish the workout; seek out people with knowledge that can assist you, but find a way to make yourself better. “Life is a do-it-yourself project,” someone has said. Your attitude and the choices you make today build the “house” you live in tomorrow.
Stop making excuses, and start CHOOSING to make your dreams come true.
