Does your team struggle with turnovers?
I think if we’re honest with ourselves we all probably do. Some more than others, but one thing we can agree on…
…We all want more possessions, more opportunities to score and less time frustrated on the sidelines after a turnover.
My first coaching job I had a challenge. A pretty big one.
I had a group of kids who hadn’t hit puberty yet and we were playing against teams way faster, longer and more athletic than us…
…And they pressed the hell out of us
It was NOT fun
It was also then that I learned a very simple, but valuable lesson.
You achieve what you emphasize.
A question you continually need to ask is…
“Does my practice plan match up with things we’re struggling with?”
We struggled with turning the ball over, but generic passing drills weren’t going to cut it…
…And, it’s where I learned that the best way to create game carryover is to develop drills that recreate game situations. Break the game down into the small parts you’re struggling with and drill the hell out of those.
It was here that our Beat the Panic Series was born. And it got results.
It’s something I’ll be presenting at our Coaches Academy in Jacksonville and truly hope you can join us. It’s something I’m really passionate about because I feel your pain…
…And I’d love to share it with you here.
Hope to meet you in person soon!
