The fall is my favorite time of the year. With the cool air, leaves falling and basketball season right around the corner, it’s always nostalgic for me.
One of the things I love about it is that it’s the only time of the year (unless you play fall league) where there are no referees, no evaluators and no coaches. It’s just you in the gym going 1 on 1 against yourself everyday. Trying to be better than you were the day before. Honing a new dribble move. Working on a go-to scoring move.
But with the game always changing — new moves are being performed and more effective drills are developed. Which is why even if you’ve been to one of our camps in the past, we thought we’d share with you the top 3 reasons to come back.
- Players who attend the camp for a second time will have a better understanding of the teaching points we are emphasizing and how to perform specific drills. This will help them make their workouts more efficient, therefore improving faster in a shorter amount of time. We also want to see your child’s name in the paper!
- 1 on 1 Play: The problem when most kids play 1 on 1 in an open gym is that they are playing in unrealistic game situations. When I see most kids play 1 on 1 they make 13 dribbles before they take a shot. That will never happen in a real game against a good team! During camp we put players in realistic situations to play 1 on 1. We’ll teach a specific skill and then put them in a 1 on 1 situation where they need to use the skill to be successful. Playing 1 on 1 is one of the most underrated things you can do to improve yourself as a player. If you think about it, you are getting 500% more repetitions opposed to a 5 on 5 scrimmage!
- It’s all about deep practice and repetition: If you read my last email you know that several recent studies are showing that many qualities we previously viewed as innate talent are actually results of deep, deliberate practice. Our workouts put players in optimal situations to execute quality repetitions of skills they need to be successful. During a 1 hour camp players will on average execute 250-300 dribble moves.
This fall we have a series of camps across the state of Wisconsin (and Minneapolis coming soon) where you can take your mind and skills to the next level. To prepare for your best season yet. We hope you can join us.
